Skateboard Lessons in Brooklyn

Brooklyn doesn’t just have a skate scene—it isthe scene. From Williamsburg to Owl’s Head, Leon brings creative, no-pressure energy to every lesson.

Why Learn to Skate in Brooklyn

Deep Skate Culture

Brooklyn's skate community is one of the most diverse and welcoming in the country. It's a place where beginners and pros share the same parks, and where style matters more than sponsors. Leon's teaching is rooted in that same ethos—respect, inclusion, and authenticity.

Parks Built for Learning

Brooklyn's skateparks range from beginner-friendly flat areas to challenging bowls and street sections. That variety means Leon can tailor every lesson to exactly where you are—starting mellow and building up as your confidence grows.

Community, Not Competition

Learning to skate in Brooklyn means becoming part of something bigger. The local scene is supportive and encouraging, especially to newcomers. Leon connects his students with that community so the learning doesn't stop when the lesson ends.

Popular Lesson Locations

Leon teaches across Brooklyn’s best parks and open spaces. Here are the spots students love most.

LeFrak Center at Lakeside

Prospect Park

Situated inside Prospect Park, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside is one of Brooklyn's most beautiful places to learn. The open, smooth surfaces around the facility are excellent for beginners working on balance and pushing. The park setting provides a calm atmosphere away from street noise, and Leon often uses the surrounding paths for longer cruising sessions once students have the basics down.

Owl's Head Skatepark

Bay Ridge

Owl's Head is a Brooklyn institution. This well-maintained concrete park in Bay Ridge features bowls of varying depth, ledges, rails, and plenty of flat space. It's one of Leon's go-to teaching spots because of its versatility—beginners can practice fundamentals on the flat sections while intermediate skaters work on drops and carves in the bowls. The park also tends to be less crowded than Manhattan spots, giving students more room to learn at their own pace.

Williamsburg Skate Spots

Williamsburg / Greenpoint

Williamsburg's streets and plazas have long been a proving ground for New York skaters. While there isn't one single park, the neighborhood is full of smooth ledges, flat marble plazas, and open spaces that are perfect for street-style skating and flat-ground fundamentals. Leon knows the best spots in the area and selects locations based on your skill level and what you're working on.

McCarren Park

Williamsburg / Greenpoint

McCarren Park's wide pathways and open spaces make it an excellent beginner-friendly location. The smooth pavement and open layout give new skaters room to practice without feeling hemmed in by obstacles or other park users. It's also easy to reach by subway, making it a convenient option for students coming from across Brooklyn or Manhattan.

What to Expect

Leon’s Brooklyn lessons begin the same way every session does: with a real conversation about where you are and what you’re hoping to get out of skating. No assumptions, no cookie-cutter curriculum. Just honest coaching built around you.

New skaters typically start with stance, balance, and pushing—the foundational skills that make everything else possible. From there, Leon introduces turning, stopping, and basic maneuvers. Intermediate students work on whatever is next for them, whether that’s dropping in, kickflips, or just feeling more comfortable cruising through the city.

Each lesson is about an hour. Bring water, wear closed-toe shoes, and dress comfortably. Leon can provide a board if you don’t have one yet. Helmets are required for all students under 18 and strongly recommended for adults.
