Skateboard Lessons in Queens

From the concrete bowls of Astoria to the beachside vibe of Rockaway, Queens offers space, variety, and a welcoming community for skaters of all levels.

Why Learn to Skate in Queens

Diverse & Welcoming Community

Queens brings together people from every background imaginable, and that diversity carries right into the skate scene. Whether you're six or sixty, you'll find encouragement here. Leon's teaching philosophy mirrors this openness. Everyone belongs, and everyone can learn.

World-Class Parks

From the expertly designed bowls at Astoria Skatepark to the one-of-a-kind beachside setup at Rockaway, Queens has parks that rival anything in the city. These aren't afterthought builds. They're destinations, and Leon knows every inch of them.

Room to Grow

Unlike the packed streets and parks of Manhattan, Queens gives you space to breathe. Less crowded sessions mean more time on the board, more room to practice, and a calmer environment for building confidence at your own pace.

Popular Lesson Locations

Leon teaches across Queens’ best parks and open spaces. Here are the spots students love most.

Astoria Skatepark

Astoria

One of the best public skateparks in NYC, with smooth concrete bowls, a solid street section, and plenty of flat ground for beginners. Leon uses the range of terrain here to match every lesson to your level.

Flushing Meadows Corona Park

Flushing / Corona

Wide-open pathways and smooth surfaces make this one of the most beginner-friendly spots in Queens. There's room to spread out and a relaxed atmosphere that helps new skaters focus on the basics.

Maloof Park

Long Island City

A well-known spot in LIC with good features for intermediate skaters looking to progress. Leon likes the layout here for students who are ready to push past the basics and try new things.

Rockaway Park

Rockaway Beach

Skating steps from the ocean is hard to beat. The beachside setup and laid-back atmosphere make Rockaway a great spot for students who want to learn in a relaxed, encouraging environment.

What to Expect

Every lesson with Leon starts the same way: a real conversation about where you are and what you’re hoping to get out of skating. No assumptions, no cookie-cutter curriculum. Just honest coaching built around you.

New skaters typically start with stance, balance, and pushing, the foundational skills that make everything else possible. From there, Leon introduces turning, stopping, and basic maneuvers. Intermediate students work on whatever is next for them, whether that’s dropping in, kickflips, or just feeling more comfortable cruising through the city.

Each lesson is about an hour. Bring water, wear closed-toe shoes, and dress comfortably. Leon can provide a board if you don’t have one yet. Helmets are required for all students under 18 and strongly recommended for adults.
