Skateboard Lessons in Queens

From the concrete bowls of Astoria to the beachside vibe of Rockaway, Queens offers space, variety, and a welcoming community for skaters of all levels.

Why Learn to Skate in Queens

Diverse & Welcoming Community

Queens brings together people from every background imaginable, and that diversity carries right into the skate scene. Whether you're six or sixty, you'll find encouragement here. Leon's teaching philosophy mirrors this openness—everyone belongs, and everyone can learn.

World-Class Parks

From the expertly designed bowls at Astoria Skatepark to the one-of-a-kind beachside setup at Rockaway, Queens has parks that rival anything in the city. These aren't afterthought builds—they're destinations, and Leon knows every inch of them.

Room to Grow

Unlike the packed streets and parks of Manhattan, Queens gives you space to breathe. Less crowded sessions mean more time on the board, more room to practice, and a calmer environment for building confidence at your own pace.

Popular Lesson Locations

Leon teaches across Queens’ best parks and open spaces. Here are the spots students love most.

Astoria Skatepark

Astoria

Widely regarded as one of NYC's best public skateparks, Astoria Skatepark features smooth concrete bowls, a well-designed street section with ledges and rails, and plenty of flat ground for beginners. Leon uses the park's range of terrain to tailor every lesson—new skaters build confidence on the open areas while more experienced riders work on drops and transitions in the bowls. The park draws a friendly, respectful crowd that makes learning feel comfortable.

Rockaway Skatepark

Rockaway Beach

There's nothing else like skating steps from the ocean. Rockaway Skatepark sits right along the boardwalk, offering a mix of bowls, banks, and street features with a laid-back beachside atmosphere. The vibe here is relaxed and encouraging, which makes it an especially great spot for students who want to learn without pressure. Leon often pairs lessons here with a broader conversation about flow and style—the kind of skating the Rockaways naturally inspire.

Maloof Skatepark / LIC Spots

Long Island City

Long Island City's skate scene has been growing steadily, with smooth plazas, open ledges, and the well-known Maloof Skatepark area drawing skaters from across the city. The waterfront paths and open spaces around LIC are excellent for cruising and flat-ground fundamentals, while the park features offer progression for intermediate skaters. Leon knows the best corners of the neighborhood and picks locations based on your skill level and goals.

Flushing Meadows Corona Park

Flushing / Corona

The wide-open pathways and smooth surfaces of Flushing Meadows Corona Park make it one of the most beginner-friendly spots in Queens. There's room to spread out, minimal obstacles, and a relaxed atmosphere that helps new skaters focus on the basics without feeling rushed. Leon uses the park's gentle terrain for balance drills, pushing practice, and early turning skills—building a solid foundation before moving to more technical spots.

What to Expect

Every lesson with Leon starts the same way: a real conversation about where you are and what you’re hoping to get out of skating. No assumptions, no cookie-cutter curriculum. Just honest coaching built around you.

New skaters typically start with stance, balance, and pushing—the foundational skills that make everything else possible. From there, Leon introduces turning, stopping, and basic maneuvers. Intermediate students work on whatever is next for them, whether that’s dropping in, kickflips, or just feeling more comfortable cruising through the city.

Each lesson is about an hour. Bring water, wear closed-toe shoes, and dress comfortably. Leon can provide a board if you don’t have one yet. Helmets are required for all students under 18 and strongly recommended for adults.
