Coastal Town, Easy Pace
Rye sits on Long Island Sound with a mix of families and commuters. The town's pace is a little slower than what you'd find farther south in Westchester, and that carries over to the skatepark. It's rarely crowded on weekday mornings and afternoons.
Rye is about 30 minutes northeast of New Rochelle, close to Port Chester and right on the Connecticut border near Greenwich. If you’re coming from southern Fairfield County, Rye is often closer than driving into the city. The Rye station on Metro-North’s New Haven line also makes it reachable without a car, which matters for teenagers and adults who don’t want to depend on a ride.

Rye Skatepark
The main lesson location. A compact park with quarter pipes, a small bowl section, and flat ground for fundamentals. Its size is an advantage for beginners because you can see the whole park from anywhere in it. Leon uses the flat sections for balance and pushing, then moves students to the features as they're ready.
Rye Recreation Park Area
Paved paths and open areas near the recreation facilities. Good for students who want flat ground and space to work on riding, turning, and building speed before stepping into the skatepark.
Your Driveway or Neighborhood
If you have a flat, smooth driveway or a quiet stretch of sidewalk, Leon can come to you. Some students, especially younger kids, are more comfortable starting at home before moving to the park.
What to Expect
Rye is one of the few Westchester towns with its own skatepark, which changes what a lesson can look like here. Beginnersstill start on flat ground—stance, balance, learning to push—but as they progress, Leon can walk them over to the ramps and transitions at Rye Skatepark without having to drive somewhere else. For students who already ride, the park’s quarter pipes and bowl section give Leon a lot to work with.
Sessions are about an hour. Bring flat-soled sneakers and clothes that let you move freely. Leon can provide a board if you’re still figuring out what to buy, but having your own means you can keep practicing on your own time. Helmets are required for students under 18.
