Why Learn in Mount Vernon
Accessible from the Bronx and Westchester
Mount Vernon sits right between the Bronx and the rest of Westchester. Whether you're coming from the city or from towns to the north, it's an easy place to meet Leon for a lesson.
Parks with Room to Skate
Willson's Woods Park and the Memorial Field area have flat, paved surfaces with enough space to practice without getting in anyone's way. They're good spots for all levels.
Where Lessons Happen
Leon teaches at parks and open spaces across Mount Vernon. Here are the go-to spots.
Willson's Woods Park
A large park with paved paths and open areas that work well for skateboard lessons. Leon uses it for everything from first-time balance work to cruising practice. There's plenty of room to spread out.
Memorial Field Area
Flat pavement near the field with space for practicing turns, pushing, and stopping. Leon teaches here when students want a straightforward surface without hills or obstacles.
Brush Park
A neighborhood park with paved areas and a quieter feel. A good option for younger kids or adults who prefer a more low-key spot for their first few sessions.
What to Expect
The first thing Leon does is check in on where you’re at and what you want to get out of the session. Never skated before? He’ll cover stance, balance, and pushing. If you’ve got some experience, he’ll focus on the skills you want to sharpen.
Lessons are about an hour. Leon brings boards and helmets. Wear flat-soled sneakers and clothes you can move in. Helmets are required for students under 18.
