Hastings-on-Hudson already has a skatepark at Riverview Park on Warburton Avenue, which gives students a real transition and ramp environment to learn in. A second park — a 6,800-square-foot facility designed by Steve Rodriguez — is under construction at Burke Estate.
Rivertowns Community
Hastings sits in the Rivertowns corridor along the Hudson River, between Dobbs Ferry and Yonkers. The Rivertown Skate Society is active here, and skating has real roots in the community. It's not something being introduced — it's already part of how people here spend their time.
Hastings-on-Hudson is a small village on the Hudson River, just north of Yonkers and about 20 miles from Midtown Manhattan. A lot of families move here from the city for the schools and the slower pace, and many of those kids are looking for activities beyond the usual team sports. Skateboarding fits that need well — it’s individual, it’s outside, and kids can practice on their own once they have the basics down.
The existing skatepark at Riverview Park gives Leon a dedicated space to teach ramp basics, dropping in, and transition skating. For students who aren’t ready for the skatepark or prefer flat ground, Draper Park and the paths along Warburton Avenue have smooth pavement and enough room to work on pushing, turning, and cruising. MacEachron Waterfront Park, down by the river, is another option — flat, open, and usually quiet on weekday mornings.

Riverview Park / Skatepark
The skatepark at Riverview Park on Warburton Avenue is Hastings' dedicated skate spot. Leon uses it for students who want to learn ramp riding, dropping in, or transition basics. For beginners, the flat areas around the park work well for balance and pushing practice.
Draper Park
A neighborhood park with smooth pavement and open space. Leon uses Draper Park for flat-ground fundamentals — stance, pushing, turning, and stopping. It's a calm spot with less foot traffic, good for younger kids or anyone who wants to focus without distractions.
MacEachron Waterfront Park
A flat, open park on the Hudson River waterfront. Leon uses this spot for cruising practice and longer pushes. It's usually quiet on weekday mornings, and the paved paths give students room to build speed and confidence.
What to Expect
Hastings is one of the few Rivertowns with its own skatepark, over at Riverview Park. That said, most beginners don’t start there. Leon usually begins lessons on flat ground at MacEachron Waterfront Park or in Draper Park, where there’s room to learn stance, pushing, and balance without worrying about ramps or other skaters. As students progress, Riverview becomes the next step. The first lesson guide covers what to bring and how to prepare.
Sessions run about an hour. Bring your own board if you have one — Leon can provide one if not. Wear flat-soled sneakers and clothes that let you move freely.
