What to Expect
Scenic Hudson Park in Irvington has some of the smoothest pavement in the Rivertowns — wide paths, almost no car traffic, and plenty of room to work without dodging pedestrians. Leon meets you there or at another spot that fits better, like Matthiessen Park or near the community center. First-timers start with the fundamentals: which foot goes forward, how to stand, how to push and stop. Returning students work on whatever’s next for them.
Plan for about an hour per lesson. If you don’t own a board yet, Leon can bring one, though having your own is ideal. Flat-soled shoes work best — anything with a chunky or curved sole makes balance harder. Helmets are required for students under 18.
